also, maybe I need to eat anything first before bringing friends to try anything untried. yesterday, in my rush to have a farewell eat at the soon-to-close Le Bistrot, I asked my friends along but they were not super impressed by the mains and desserts (though the starters were really promising!). been eating lousy food at too costly a price. even Cocotte disappointed us badly.

BROWNIES! you promise. though speaking of brownies – I’ve seen a few floating about with salted caramel inside. thinking about it makes me very hungry.

yes go, go! and, I’ve heard that they have good desserts. this might the holy grail of restaurants (for now, and so to speak).

I’ve never seen the tulips in holland :( it was never the season when I was there. I’m glad it was fun – but I wouldn’t have liked the heat either (is it worse than what we’re getting here?)

beautiful tulips! they are gorgeous just like the ones i visited in Keukenhoft. anyway, im back! guangzhou was fun even though its wayy too hot and humid now. but that’s alright coz i ate well there. those dim sum and chinese cuisine were to die for! :)

quick as a button I am because this is my work-hood, so to speak. do not go for matt’s. I suspect you make better chocolate cake (at least I do re brownies, next time I’ll give you some) hehe.

and yes! I really want to try burlamacco out, after raving reviews from my colleagues. hurray, one more to affirm that it is good :)

we ended up paying about $120 for four (3 pizzas + 2 sides + no drinks).

your question got me thinking actually – I think price expectation here depends on the type of restaurant it is, rather than the food served. so about 2x for a mid-range place (which this is, really, since it was mostly casual self-service), and anywhere >3x to be a sit-down with service.

but it’s likely also a question of worth. it is possible to eat very well (though we’re talking local food) at a tenner (or less) per person, so while I’m perfectly happy to pay – you expect a certain level of cooking when the prices are higher!

Now I’m curious. How much does one expect to pay per person for a pizza dinner in Singapore?

New Zealand and Singapore dollars are $1 to $0.98 so VERY close. I dined at a local pizzeria this week with a friend. 1 pizza, a glass of wine and a beer (no sides) came to $31NZ. The pizza was very good, doughy and fresh compared to the crisp, thin crust variety that everyone seems to be doing these days.

better man-made than none isn’t it! I love that helix bridge too. but if I’m in that area, then going up to kudeta is completely worth it – if only to just gaze at it all (especially in night light).

I remember visiting disneyland paris quite a few years ago and being morbidly fascinated by a man eating steak tartare, and mopping the juices up with bread. I’m pretty sure they will be happy to serve you whatever gets you to hand over your money!

that’s my sister’s favourite potato soup – really a thick potato puree with bits of bacon and cheese stirred through (so it gets all stringy!)

I like to cook steak at home because it’s very easy to get right and I employ others to mash potatoes and simple veggies on the side are cheap and easy too. Another thing I’ve come to realise is that I like my steak rare. I can do this easily at home, but I feel like an animal if I ask for a rare at a restaurant, even though I’m sure they wouldn’t care. So I can’t say I am someone who orders steak when dining out, but it looks like these guys are doing it right.

p.s. what is in the bowl in the third photo?
