very good japanese at the sofitel renmin square, xi’an. this was by far the best restaurant we went to in xi’an. it was also – as appropriate for a restaurant within a hotel – a lot more expensive, but not excessively so, and I think it was good value for money.
visiting koi over two dinners, we had the chance to try their bentos, a nabe of tofu and seafood, teppanyaki and their grilled seafood. all very good, as were their accompaniment sashimi – fresh and sweet – smooth chawanmushi and fresh fruit.
i’d love to come back to xi’an just to eat here, but it really is of a standard you’d expect in a good japanese restaurant anyway, so it rather fulfilled our expectations rather than exceeded them.
