truly awesome hummus (and more) in soho. I haven’t enjoyed a meal more at this price point in london for a very long time – and I really regret not having come here earlier even though it’s been on my to-do for ages.
the menu is small and simple, and suits the sort of walk-in-or-stay-for-a-while style of cafe they’ve set up at wardour street (land of the wonderful busaba eathai, princi, and more; also one of my favourite streets in london). service is friendly and fantastic – and very prompt. you basically have a choice of toppings over their specialty hummus, and you can get pitas alongside or salads.
we were a party of a two girls and got the mushroom topping as well as the beef topping on hummus with four pitas, as well as a side of falafel and tzatziki over a chopped salad and we could not finish it. the salad was fresh and the falafel packed but competently crumbly and well-fried – with no hint of old oil as you can sometimes get, the pitas warmed and fluffy and so wonderful you could sink into them and sleep. if they were much larger, of course.
the hummus itself is smooth and has a texture that feels very rustic, and it tastes fantastic. the flavour sings through and suits the toppings, isn’t overly oily or mushy-watery as bad hummus can be. the buttons mushrooms had been cooked in a very tasty and savoury sauce, and the beef was fall-apart-tender.
if you can’t tell already, I loved this meal. it was cheap, it was good, and it was a nice bright cafe to sit in on a rare sunny day in london. you won’t see many good deals like this place around!
