  1. hmm, i think the lack of cafes in hanoi is what makes it charming. less commercialized. i havent been to saigon, but from what i read and saw online, it is very modern and very commercialized too (gastronomic scene is more vibrant, buildings are more modern and well planned) compared to its northern counterpart).

    • it is! ho chi minh is much more commercial, but I also like it that way, sigh. I’m sure there’s something to be said about rusticity and being quaintly backward, but we (possibly sadly) appreciate our modern amenities more than a little, sigh.
