bam-bam-bam-bam (hum to beethoven no. 5, please)

trepidation

I know it’s been a weekend of radio silence, but I am back – and I am excited, but also all sorts of hmm-maybe-I-shouldn’t-do-this. I’ll be trying out something new for the posts starting tomorrow, and it’s a format that gives me more creative control, and my random survey of (un)willing friends has turned up mostly positive (the rest of you, I’ve been crying myself to sleep).

please let me know what you think, and if you’re wondering if I would like the truth or something beautiful – then I would like the first, all done up as the latter.

see you tomorrow!

i’m instagrammin’, y’all

is it just me who wants to punch something after all those tags? there’s something about the new social media that puts me off because of the #deathoflanguage that occurs from all these #genwhicharetheynow who feel like they’re being all #cool by summarising their lives into ‘inventive’ space-less words that follow the criss-cross of a #tictactoe grid.

but I’ve decided to give a go at the browbeating encouragement of friends, and perhaps it might be a way for you to inject even more #food #photography into your life?

you will get me with _andmorefood (don’t forget the underscore), and I’m going to go wash those hashes off my hands and brains now, thank you.

on a more serious note, I awoke to news this morning of the riot in little india. please keep safe, open-minded – and let us all do our part to keep this peace that lets us sleep soundly at night, and remember our roles in helping ensure it stays this way for ourselves and our children, and all to follow.

have a good day, all of you.

backend work: geographical gastronomy

I’ve been rather frustrated with indexing my posts since starting andmorefood – I was never sure what would be useful for you guys in navigating the posts, and all that manual listing on the previous out-and-about page was both tedious (and didn’t seem quite worth all the effort for turning out merely as a long and rather meandering list).

so let’s try something new, shall we? I’ve just spent a couple of days trying to organize the posts onto maps – so that you can find restaurants near places you’ll be visiting, or use for planning out your days. I’ve also reinstated the search bar, just in case you’re looking for something specific

you’ll see it all here on geographical gastronomy, listed also on the sidebar. let me know what you think?

xx

p.s. the blog turned two years old just a few days ago: this calls for cake – and thank you all for sticking around!

the versatile blogger award

versatile blogger award

the very talented sophia at silk and spice and michelle at bite by michelle were kind enough to give me this award (thank you very much!) – these women are great cooks and brilliant photographers, so I feel very humble and grateful that they would.

as part of the award, I now have to figure out seven facts to tell you about myself – but safe ones, right, so I won’t have to kill you after telling:

not cool, man, not cool

stolen!

I write on this ol’ blog as an indulgence to my food- and word-loving soul – and I know the internet is no safe place – but still, stealing someone’s content wholesale without asking or informing, is the epitome of serious uncoolness (and a sign of evil).

the offending – and offensive – site has removed all the text (and most of the photos bar one) after I emailed them, but that doesn’t erase the animosity I felt and still feel. I’m not linking them here – because driving traffic to them is nothing they deserve – but really, to all you budding websiters out there – most of us will share our content. all you’ve got to do is ask.

liebster award, no. 2

liebster

the awesome grub blog was kind enough to give me my second liebster award (thank you!) and here goes:
